New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2021

In anticipation of this blog post for That Artsy Reader Girls’s Top Ten Tuesday, I tried sorting out all the new-to-me authors I read in 2021 and… There were A LOT! Even a lot more than I thought there would be. 40, in case you wanted to count them. This means that every other book I read this year, was by an author I didn’t “know” prior to 2021.

I read both from the library as from little free libraries, and often find books of authors I have never even heard of. But I also started watching book tube a lot more, and plenty of I new-to-me authors made it to my TBR from there. Since the list has gotten so long, I decided to arrange them a bit, starting with the ones I need to read more of to the ones I will probably pass on.

Authors I NEED to read more of

  • Louise Penny (already read three in 2021)
  • Rachel Caine (already read four in 2021)

Authors I probably will read more of

  • Eowyn Ivey
  • Simone St. James
  • Madeline Miller
  • Dennis Lehane
  • Ruth Ware
  • Jennifer McMahon
  • Ragnar Jónasson
  • Søren Sveistrup
  • Michelle Paver
  • Ben Guterson

Authors I could maybe read more of
(most of these are second chance authors, but some are just outside of my comfort zone)

  • Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
  • Colleen Hoover (her thrillers)
  • Jo Nesbø
  • Daphne Kalotay
  • Susan Kay
  • Dennis Lehane
  • Robert Harris
  • Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Alex Michaelides
  • Kate Summerscale
  • Tana French
  • Waubgeshig Rice
  • Delia Owens
  • Ann Cleeves

Authors I’ll probably pass on
(for several reasons, most of these are outside my comfort zone or too bland)

  • Margaret Killjoy
  • Jeff Povey
  • Femke Roobol
  • Michael Christie
  • Sarah Penner
  • Sander Kollaard
  • Paolo Cognetti
  • Janny de Heer
  • Marina Gessner
  • Valeria Luiselli
  • Candace M. Robb
  • Noelle Holten
  • Camilla Sten
  • Clare Pooley

Okay, these were just boring lists like this, but have you read any of these authors before? Or are you curious about them? Which one of the authors I’ll probably pass on do you think I do need to give another chance?

I’ve got to admit I seldom read anything but informational books, technical, scientific, etc. I would like to read others. I retired hoping to do just that. Then the Pandemic. Now there are so many others to read and not enough time.
